Toyota to Launch the Rumion MPV Based on Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in India

The Indian market is soon set to welcome the Toyota Rumion MPV, which is based on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. As part of the Suzuki-Toyota alliance, both companies have been rebadging various models for international markets, including India. The recent launch of the Maruti Invicto, based on the Innova Hicross, exemplifies this partnership.

Following the success of the Maruti Baleno, which was launched as the Glanza in India, and the Maruti Grand Vitara, which became the Urban Cruiser highrider SUV, Toyota now plans to introduce the Rumion in the Indian market.

The Rumion, already rebadged by Toyota in South Africa and being manufactured by Maruti Suzuki for export, is scheduled for an Indian release in September. It comes with several design changes, including a new front grille, alloy wheels, black dashboard, and the Toyota logo replacing the Suzuki badge.

Under the hood, the Rumion will feature a 1.5-liter dual-jet engine with start-stop technology. It generates a power of 103 hp at 6000rpm and a torque of 136.8 Nm at 4400rpm. Additionally, the paddle shifter will be replaced by a new 6-speed automatic gearbox, while a 5-speed manual option will also be available.

The fuel efficiency of the Rumion is expected to match that of the Ertiga, with a mileage of 20.51kpl for the manual gearbox and 20.30kpl for the automatic variant. Moreover, the CNG option will provide 87hp and 121.5Nm of torque, running on a 5-speed manual transmission. It claims an impressive mileage of 26.11 kmpl.

The Maruti Ertiga, which serves as the base model for the Rumion, is currently priced between Rs. 8.64 lakhs and 13.08 lakhs. The exact pricing for the Toyota Rumion in India is yet to be announced.

With the introduction of the Rumion, Toyota aims to expand its presence in the Indian market and cater to the growing demand for compact MPVs. The alliance between Suzuki and Toyota continues to bring forth successful collaborations, offering a wider range of options to customers in India and abroad.
