Producers of fish food and preserves warned retailers of a 5-15% increase in prices for their products due to an increase in the cost of raw materials, Kommersant reports, citing representatives of one of the large retail chains and Verny (owns more than 930 stores in different cities of Russia).

“This is explained by the increase in the cost of both basic raw materials and ingredients, packaging, freight,” said one of the interlocutors of the publication.

The increase in the cost of fishing and servicing of vessels also leads to an increase in the cost of fish products, said Sergey Sennikov, deputy director of Norebo Management Company. He also expressed the opinion that the increase in prices may be associated with a sharp increase in the cost of mackerel last autumn, since the previous salmon fishing season was “unsuccessful”, and the world market situation, on the contrary, was favorable, which led to an increase in the volume of salmon exports and an increase in the price of some pelagic species. processed fish. In addition, Sennikov pointed to a slight increase in the cost of herring and ivashi.

The manager of the Dobroflot Group of Companies Alexander Efremov said that suppliers of salmon and ivasi preserves may increase the cost of goods due to the expiration of the shelf life of raw materials and the depletion of stocks before the start of a new fishing season in June.

In general, according to the Federal Agency for Fishery, the average price of mackerel in the wholesale link in the center of Russia today is 193 rubles. per kg, and herring – 110 rubles. per kg, which is 37.85 and 61.76%, respectively, higher than in the same periods last year. Sockeye salmon in Kamchatka costs 1200–1500 rubles. per kg, having risen in annual terms by almost a third, said the head of the Information Agency for Fisheries Alexander Savelyev.

At the same time, the Federal Agency for Fishery did not see the prerequisites for an increase in prices for fish gastronomy and preserves. They pointed to an increase in the production of Pacific herring, since the fleet was more focused on fishing in connection with the introduction by China of restrictions on the import of pollock, as well as the beginning of the active phase of salmon fishing in the Far East. So, by July 7, more than 41,000 tons of this fish were caught, which is five times higher than the level of 2019.
