Traffic light promise – how long does the anti-lockdown oath last? – Domestic policy

by time news

The L-word is back in the political debate: will Germany fall into lockdown again?

Just a week ago, FDP leader Christian Lindner (42) had promised: no lockdown with the new traffic light government, no more curfews – instead, a bundle of new measures.

But: Since then, the situation has worsened in a number of clinics – and the 7-day incidence has risen from 126.8 to 263.7. Consequence: At the latest at the federal-state summit next Thursday, the anti-lockdown oath could shake.

► Green health expert Janosch Dahmen (40, emergency doctor) was the first to go on the offensive. He called for “immediate emergency brake” for certain districts “closings and contact restrictions”. In plain language: regional lockdowns.

The SPD country chiefs, who supported every tough measure in the GroKo, assured on Thursday that they wanted to prevent lockdowns for everyone. To do this, they target the unvaccinated hard:

► Meck-Pomm Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (47, SPD) announced nationwide 2G rules (access only for vaccinated and convalescent people) from the next warning level (“orange”).

► Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Stephan Weil (62, SPD) wants – like Berlin – to introduce 2G as early as next week. For those who have not been vaccinated, “the situation can be similar to that of the previous winter,” he admitted.

Say: lockdown.

► Head of the teachers’ association, Heinz-Peter Meidinger, warns in BILD that the danger of schools being closed is back, and that there is even a threat of “loss of control”: “That must be prevented,” said Meidinger. He named as necessary measures, inter alia. more air filters and fewer “contacts in private”.
