A crew member working on the filming of the “Law & Order: Organized Crime” series was shot to death on the set of the mythical TV show in Brooklyn this morning (Tuesday), in a shooting that could have been taken directly from the script.

According to information provided by authorities, the 31-year-old victim (married to a father of three) had just started his shift and was sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked on North Henry Street near Norman Avenue in Greenpoint around 5:15 p.m. The murdered man and his friend sat in the car and reserved the parking space for the production team. Suddenly, another person opened the driver’s door and shot him, officials said.

“It was insane,” said the victim’s confused colleague, who as mentioned along with the murdered man saved the seats for the film crews’ trucks for later use. “I did not hear an argument or anything. It was quiet, early in the morning,” the colleague said. “It was just a noise like ‘Pop,’ and he was running toward Nassau Avenue. I only heard one knock, but I don’t know how many shots.”

The victim, whose name was not released until a family announcement, was shot several times in the face and neck, officials said. He was taken to Woodhall Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 6 a.m., police said. Filming was scheduled to take place on the set at 6 a.m., as part of the filming of the third season of the popular series, which features stars including Chris Maloney and Insley Seeger.

The motive for the killing was unclear, but police said they did not rule out anything – including the possibility that it was due to a parking dispute. The suspect escaped and is still at large, authorities said. He was recently seen wearing a black hoodie and black pants, police said.

The victim had a record that included arrest, but has had no issues with the law since 2015, police sources said. His previous records included domestic violence and marijuana use, but the cases were closed, sources said.

NBC and Universal Television, which produce the crime series on television, said in a statement, “We were very sad and shocked to hear that one of our team members was a victim of crime early this morning and died as a result,” We are working with local law enforcement agencies as they continue to investigate. We sympathize with his family and friends, and we ask you to respect their privacy during this period. ”

A friend and colleague of the victim said the men’s job was to place the cones and park the trucks: “We’ve been doing this for five or six years,” he said. “We arrive 24 hours in advance to start clearing the parking lot,” we park in our trucks, waiting for the stars to come out. Trucks have equipment for TV shows and movie scenes. Sometimes we hesitate about parking, but we work with a lot of people in the communities, “the man said.” They talk to us, we talk to them. We see what time you want to leave, and depending on what time our trucks arrive, we let them shop. There is never too much hassle with parking. ”

His co-worker said he had known the victim for seven years and described him as “a brother to me.” The friend said the victim left behind a wife, two daughters and a son. “He was a great guy, always laughing or funny someone, you know?” Said the co-worker.

Local resident Ian Oberholtzer, 35, who has lived in the block for 11 years, said he doubts the crime is due to a parking dispute: “I can not imagine it being related to parking,” Oberholtzer said. “There are a lot of parking spaces at five in the morning.” The block is a popular set for filming the show because it is close to production studios, according to Oberholzer.

“They shoot a lot here,” he said of the production team. “The parking routine is pretty normal.” Oberholzer added that the area is generally quiet and safe. “It’s not the kind of thing you would expect in a block,” he said of the deadly shooting, “I never feel threatened or in danger of death. I’m worried but also quite confused about it.”

The fatal shooting was the first murder in the 94th District during the year. This was the third shooting of the compound so far in 2022. Both statistics match that of last year.
