Mourning in the world of Hockey, specifically the NHL, after the news of Johnny Gaudreau’s death.
The hockey star was biking with his brother when a Jeep driver crashed into them, resulting in both losing their lives. In fact, police reports indicate that the driver of the Jeep was under the influence of alcohol.
The New Jersey State Police told TMZ … “The troopers responded to a motor vehicle accident at 8:19 p.m. on County Route 551 North. Gaudreau, along with his 29-year-old brother Matthew, were riding their bicycles. Sean M. Higgins, a 43-year-old man from Woodstown, N.J., was traveling north on CR 551 in a Jeep Grand Cherokee behind a sedan and an SUV.”
“Higgins attempted to pass the slower-moving sedan and the SUV, entered the southbound traffic lanes, passed the slower sedan, and tried to re-enter the northbound traffic lanes when the SUV in front of Higgins moved into the center of the roadway, separating the northbound and southbound lanes of traffic to safely pass the two cyclists who were traveling north on the right side of the roadway. Higgins then attempted to pass the SUV on the right and struck the two cyclists from behind. As a result of the collision, the two cyclists sustained fatal injuries,” the state police reported.
They concluded, “Through further investigation, Higgins was deemed a suspect for being under the influence of alcohol, charged with two counts of death, and was taken into custody at the Salem County Correctional Facility. The investigation into the accident remains active, and there is currently no further information.”
