Traffic Accident Claims Life of Local Technician in Pyrgos
A fatal traffic accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, August 8, 2024, on the E.O. Pyrgos-Patras road, near the Aigli restaurant. The incident claimed the life of 45-year-old Giannis Sassalos, a local technician and automotive programmer.
Giannis Sassalos, originally from Zacharo, had been residing in Pyrgos in recent years. Reports suggest he was driving a high-performance BMW Z4 when he lost control of the vehicle. The car collided with two metal light poles, causing them to collapse, before ending up in a ditch in a mangled state.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the unfortunate driver was tragically ejected several meters away and dismembered. Emergency responders from the Pyrgos Traffic Police, EKAV ambulance service, and the Pyrgos Fire Service were dispatched to the scene.
Apparently, this tragic incident was not the first time Giannis Sassalos had been involved in serious traffic accidents.
