According to the information available so far, the driver of a truck heading towards Kyparissia lost control while entering a straight stretch after a “difficult” turn; the vehicle “tipped,” crossed into the opposite lane, and collided with three passing vehicles, causing the fatal accident. The cars ended up underneath the truck.
Sources report that there are at least four dead – two adults and two children (two dead from one car, the father and his child, and another two from the other) and four seriously injured (they were in the third car, one has been intubated and is being transported to Kalamata). To rescue the trapped individuals, 12 firefighters with 6 vehicles were dispatched.
The authorities rushed to the location, with ambulances, fire trucks, and police forces working to free the victims, as one of the involved vehicles is completely crushed by the truck. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
The Pyrgos – Kyparissia national road has been closed and traffic is being diverted via Elaia.
The traffic accident occurred at the well-known “Elaia turn,” where many similar incidents have occurred in the past.
