A man who was seriously injured early this morning in a road accident on the Complementary Route (IC) 2 in Leiria has died in hospital, raising the death toll to two, according to a source from the GNR reported to Lusa.
According to the Sub-regional Command of Leiria of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority, the accident involved a heavy vehicle, a car, and a motorcycle.
Leiria Sapadores Firefighters reported that at the scene of the accident, the driver of the moped, aged 69, died, and the driver of the light vehicle was transported to Leiria Hospital in serious condition.
The Local Health Unit of the Leiria Region, of which the hospital is a part, confirmed the death of the motorist, aged 40.
According to a source from the GNR, “the initial indications suggest a collision between the passenger vehicle and the moped in the north-south direction” of the IC2.
