Tragic Drowning of One-Year-Old Portuguese Baby in Corsica Sparks Fundraising Campaign for Repatriation

by time news

A one-year-old Portuguese baby drowned on Tuesday in Corsica, France, reveals the Amicale Portugaise Association in a post shared on Facebook, launching a fundraising campaign to repatriate the body.

The incident occurred while the girl was playing in an inflatable pool at home, located in the city of Bastia, according to the newspaper Correio da Manhã.

The baby, who had just turned one in early July, suffered from cerebral edema and was resuscitated by emergency services, the Portuguese daily further indicates. She was then airlifted to Lenval Hospital in Nice, but unfortunately did not survive her injuries.

According to the Amicale Association, “the parents have few options to send the girl’s body back to Portugal.” Therefore, a fundraising campaign has been launched to help the family cover the costs of transportation.
