London ∙ The Malayali community in Britain woke up yesterday to the tragic news of teenage Malayali children drowning in Britain’s Northern Ireland. The friends and officials of various Malayali organizations in Northern Ireland are at a loss as to what to say to comfort the parents of their friends Joseph Sebastian (Joppu-16) and Ruan Simon (16).

Both students of St Columb’s Boys’ College died on Monday evening when they fell into a lake near Temple Road in Stratford, Derrylaw. The bodies of the two people found in the lake have been shifted to the morgue by the police and fire force officials. The police have not officially released the details of the accident. However, the tragedy that happened to two Malayali families quickly reached the Malayalees in Britain and at home.

Cycling is dangerous

It is reported that the accident occurred when a group of six friends, including the deceased children, went cycling. The information coming out is that while cycling, Ruan fell into the water and had an accident and his friend Joseph, who tried to save him, also fell victim to a similar accident. Another child has also been admitted to the hospital with injuries. It is reported that the child’s injuries are not serious. The police confirmed that three other people were with them.

The emergency service team arrived at the scene shortly after the accident. It was during the search conducted by them that Ruan and then Joseph were brought to the hospital. Joseph was found after an extensive search. Joseph was pronounced dead at the scene.

The scene is under police control. No one is allowed in here. Ruan is the son of Joshi Simon in Muprapalli, Payayavur, Pennenaparambat, Kannur. Joseph is the son of Aju, an Ottaplakal family member in Erumeli Korati Kuruwamoozhi.
