Update: Special unit stormed the house and found two bodies. Perpetrator shot. Alarm lifted.

As several South Tyrolean media report, a fatal family tragedy occurred in the early hours of Sunday in a multi-family house in Innichen. A 50-year-old man shot his 90-year-old, care-dependent father, a former gamekeeper, with a hunting rifle in their shared apartment. A neighbor was also killed.

The perpetrator had barricaded himself in a multi-family house on St. Korbinian Street in Innichen and reportedly fired shots at the emergency services. This led to a large-scale lockdown of the entire area around the house, including the train station. Public transport was disrupted, and residents were instructed to stay in their homes.

At 10:30 a.m., a special unit of the Carabinieri ended the dramatic scenario by storming the apartment. The perpetrator was shot in the neck area and was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. At 11:00 a.m., the civil protection warning was lifted.
