Farm Fire in Oberbalm
A fire ripped through a farm in Oberbalm during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, completely destroying the building. Thankfully, no people were injured in the blaze, but several animals lost their lives.
The fire was reported shortly after 8:20 PM on Tuesday evening. Around 30 quails, a dozen chickens, and a calf were in the barn at the time of the fire and were unfortunately found dead.
Emergency services responded to the scene, including police, firefighters, and an ambulance team. The affected residents were temporarily accommodated by other residents. The farmhouse was undergoing renovations at the time of the fire.
The Bern cantonal police are investigating the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
Firefighters from Köniz and Oberbalm battled the flames, receiving assistance from the Bern professional fire department. A turntable ladder was also used to reach the higher parts of the burning building.
