According to the fire and disaster protection inspector of the Bernkastel-Wittlich district, the body of the woman has already been recovered.
In the morning, rescue teams managed to save four people, including a two-year-old child and the mother, from the rubble. The condition of the rescued individuals is not yet known. The rescue operation is proving challenging due to the unstable state of the building, which resembles a house of cards with a collapsed floor.
What happened?
On Tuesday evening, parts of the hotel collapsed. Only five people were able to escape the building. Eight people are trapped under the rubble, some with serious injuries. Rescue teams were able to establish contact with some of them through mobile phones. The cause of the partial collapse is still unknown. Emergency services were called to the scene late Tuesday evening.
Police: “Extremely challenging operation”
At the scene of the accident, parts of the multi-story half-timbered building have collapsed. Concrete debris is scattered on the ground. The police described the operation as extremely challenging due to the unstable building structure, which can only be entered with extreme caution by rescue personnel.
About 250 helpers, including firefighters and the Technical Relief Organization (THW), are on-site. Specialized teams and a rescue dog unit are also involved. Drones are being used to survey the accident site.
