A man died this Monday afternoon in the bay of São Martinho do Porto, in Alcobaça, reports the National Maritime Authority (AMN).
In a statement sent to Renascença, the AMN adds that the swimmer was 65 years old and is believed to have been a victim of a heart attack.
The alert for a body floating in a non-monitored area of the bay of São Martinho do Porto was raised at 1:30 PM. The man was pulled from the water by a passerby.
The man was still assisted by members of the Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle (VMER), but death was eventually declared at the scene.
The body was transported to the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Leiria, following contact with the Public Ministry, the National Maritime Authority reports.
