Marco Piga, the former footballer from Avellino, Atalanta, and Catania, has passed away at the age of 68. He was hospitalized at the Merlo hospital in La Maddalena and had been battling cancer for years. In recent days, his condition had worsened, and he died yesterday of cardiac arrest.

The Career

Born in 1956 in Palau, Piga made his professional debut with Torres at the age of 17 before moving to Lucchese and then to Avellino from 1977 to 1979, achieving the historic promotion of the wolves to Serie A. Throughout his career, he played for Atalanta (also with a promotion here) and Catania, totaling 76 appearances and 12 goals in Serie B.

He returned to play for Torres in the 1983/84 season and ended his career with Ilvamaddalena in 1989, in Maddalena, where he continued to live and managed a business. He leaves behind a wife and a daughter. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 10:30 am in La Maddalena.
