Mourning in the world of Hockey, specifically the NHL, after the news of Johnny Gaudreau’s death.
The hockey star was bicycling with his brother when a jeep driver collided with them, resulting in both losing their lives. In fact, police information reports that the jeep driver was under the influence of alcohol.
The New Jersey State Police told TMZ … “Troopers responded to a motor vehicle accident at 8:19 p.m. on County Route 551 North. Gaudreau and his 29-year-old brother Matthew were riding their bicycles. Sean M. Higgins, a 43-year-old man from Woodstown, N.J., was traveling north on CR 551 in a Jeep Grand Cherokee behind a sedan and an SUV.”
“Higgins attempted to overtake the slower-moving sedan and the SUV, entered the southbound travel lanes, passed the slower-moving sedan, and attempted to re-enter the northbound travel lanes when the SUV in front of Higgins moved to the middle of the roadway, separating the northbound and southbound lanes to safely pass the two cyclists traveling north on the right side of the roadway. Higgins then attempted to pass the SUV on the right and struck the two cyclists from behind. As a result of the collision, the two cyclists sustained fatal injuries,” said the state police.
They concluded, “Through further investigation, Higgins was found to be suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, charged with two counts of death, and was taken into custody at the Salem County correctional facility. The investigation regarding the accident remains active, and there is no further information at this time.”
