Tragic Loss: Rapper Rich Homie Quan Found Unresponsive at Home, Cause of Death Under Investigation

by time news

According to TMZ, the rapper’s girlfriend found him unconscious on a couch in their home in Atlanta. He was not breathing and had no pulse, so she called 911.

In fact, he started frothing at the mouth when she tried to move him.

The death of Rich Homie Quan was confirmed by a representative from the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office, as well as by his family, who said they were devastated to TMZ. The cause of his death was not immediately announced, while the autopsy is expected to be conducted today, Friday.

Rich Homie Quan, whose real name is Decynthia Devonte Lamar, grew up in DeKalb County on the east side of Atlanta and entered the evolving Atlanta rap scene in 2011 after a series of break-ins that led to a stint in Georgia prison.

He became one of the biggest names in the hip-hop scene in the mid-2010s, as he released several mixtapes before becoming widely known in 2013 with the hit “Type of Way,” which led to deeper connections in Atlanta’s music circles, with names like Gucci Mane and Birdman and eventually with rapper Young Thug.

He followed up with “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” a song produced by DJ Spinz and Nitti Beatz. It became his highest solo single, reaching No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Later, Rich Homie Quan collaborated with Young Thug on the Cash Money Records project “Rich Gang” and was a frequent collaborator with 2 Chainz and Jacquees.

Rich Homie Quan and Young Thug hit a “gold mine” in 2014 with the song “Lifestyle,” bringing both of them to the top of the charts and serious success.

However, their musical collaboration soured soon after and came back into the spotlight during the trial centered around Young Thug.

Prosecutors believe that it led to a disastrous feud between two factions of the Bloods gang in Atlanta. Among the victims of this conflict was Corey Lamar, Rich Homie Quan’s father, who also acted as his manager and who was shot at the barbershop he owned by rival gang members in 2014.

Prosecutors have charged Jeffrey Williams – Young Thug – in a trial that became the longest-running criminal case in Georgia history. Rich Homie Quan, Birdman, and other rappers were named as potential witnesses in the trial.

Quan’s only complete studio album, “Rich as in Spirit,” was released in 2018 by Motown Records and included a feature from Rick Ross.
