Thompson was the CEO of UnitedHealthcare. He was shot outside the Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan. He was on his way to a meeting at the hotel at 7 a.m. local time on Wednesday.

At a press conference on Wednesday, police stated that the 50-year-old was hit by multiple shots in the back.
Not a random victim
The man who shot was about 7 meters away from Thompson. He wore a mask and used a silencer on his weapon. He stood and waited for ten minutes outside the hotel before Thompson arrived, as shown by area surveillance cameras.
– After Thompson passed,the shooter moved forward and began firing. The attack was clearly targeted, the police said at the press conference.
They called it a bold and brutal act.
– This is not random violence where an innocent person gets shot.
The man who killed Thompson vanished on a bicycle towards central Park in Manhattan.
After the murder, the shooter ran through an alley and disappeared on a bicycle.
– No one has been arrested and the investigation is in full swing, the police said.
They are offering a reward of up to $10,000, equivalent to over 100,000 Norwegian kroner, for facts that can help the police apprehend the man.
According to Brian Thompson’s wife, he had received several threats recently.
