TRAI is constantly taking new steps to stop spam and fraud calls. TRAI had also told the telecom companies about this. However, work is still going on to stop such calls. Why did TRAI not take a decision?
Talking about OTT apps, all of them come under the IT Ministry. No decision can be taken by TRAI on this. Because these apps are not under the jurisdiction of TRAI. All the information has been given in the letter sent by TRAI. It has also been told how such calls can be identified. The joint committee of regulators has also put forward this point. TRAI officials have also asked to take immediate action to stop such calls. This includes the name of communication apps.
Officials say that TRAI wants that joint efforts should be made regarding this. Because after the instructions from TRAI, telecom operators have started using DLT platform to stop such calls. Messages may come under TRAI, but TRAI has no authority over OTT apps. Some time ago, telecom operators were also asked to stop such calls and messages. After this, telecom operators had asked for time till October 1. This was given by TRAI.
