The possibility of making reservations for tickets on regional railways mandatory throughout France was attacked by a group of European rail user associations earlier in the summer.
This initiative “in no way reflects the ongoing work on regional transport”, emphasized the spokesman for the association for the fifteen French regions, which organizes and finances these trains, opposing “the controversy, of not confirmed” and “unfounded”.
Very few experiments
If “in the two regions (Normandy and Grand Est), the concentration reserve experiments are carried out on a limited number of trains and lines”, the association insists that “only 1% of the ‘carriage offer local express’ in France.
The conference of European rail user associations, the #enTrain network, is particularly afraid of the “flight of TERs”, a process that threatens “(depressing) rail transport” and which it says it is “strongly opposed” .
Until now, a TER ticket was generally unreserved and allowed you to board any train during the day.
Since July, the mandatory reservation of the TER has been tested on two lines in the Grand-Est region, the Paris-Troyes-Mulhouse and the Paris-Châlons-Strasbourg lines. In Normandy, the scale is already available from July 2022 on several lines to Paris after the first test phase.
