Tropical storm Erick, which originated in the early hours, is set to unleash its fury with significant rainfall and potential flooding across parts of Central America and southern Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
A cyclonic swell could lead to coastal flooding in the areas where the storm’s eye makes landfall. Authorities in Mexico are also issuing warnings.
Where’s erick Now?
Erick is currently positioned approximately 325 km south-southwest of Puerto Chiapas, Chiapas, and is moving west-northwest, running parallel to the Chiapas coastline, as reported by the National meteorological Service of Mexico. “Its wide circulation will cause intense specific rains, heavy wind gusts and elevated waves in Chiapas and Oaxaca,” stated the National water Commission, Conagua.
Hurricane surveillance zones have been established from Bahías de Huatulco in Oaxaca to Punta Maldonado in Guerrero.Additionally, a surveillance zone is in effect due to tropical storm effects, spanning from Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, to Bahías de huatulco, Oaxaca.
Mexican authorities anticipate intense rains in Guerrero, Oaxaca, chiapas, and southern Veracruz, which could also bring electric shocks and possible hail.
What’s the Forecast?
According to the SMN’s forecast, tropical storm Erick could escalate into a Category 1 hurricane by Wednesday around noon, located 185 km south of Puerto Ángel, Oaxaca. it could then intensify to a Category 2 hurricane by Thursday at the early hours, about 75 km south of Lagunas de Chacahua, Oaxaca.
The storm is expected to make landfall on Thursday, 70 km northwest of Punta Maldonado, Guerrero, before weakening into a tropical storm early Friday as it advances through Guerrero.
