D. Grybauskaitė indicated that she has no doubt that V. Putin can attack more countries. Looking at the balance of power between Russia and the West, the most dangerous period is the next two to three years, explained the former leader of Lithuania.
“We are investing in defense in NATO. In five or six years, we will be more prepared and we will be stronger. However, the next two or three years are the most dangerous time, because we are vulnerable and we are still not fully prepared”, said D. Grybauskaitė.
According to her, Europe must consider the current situation as a real threat, and there is no time for discussions, because “we are talking about the future and about survival.” She added that countries must change their mentality of peace to war, because there is no peace in Europe now.
“The West has not been able to support Ukraine enough. We have not been able to grow our military industry fast enough. And we are still not quite able to believe what might happen”, D. Grybauskaitė regretted.
“In the Western Alliance, we still have the opportunity to decide how the war in Ukraine will end, but if we do not use this opportunity, the war will come to us. Because when European and Western leaders hesitate or are busy fighting each other, it tempts V. Putin,” the former president noted.
Therefore, even when the war began, and now, she still calls for less talk and more action, the text says.
D. Grybauskaitė, according to the Danish publication, sees a situation reminiscent of the Cold War – only more complicated.
In addition to physical military attacks, there is also a constant cyber war, economic and ideological struggle.
“War has many new forms. I think we will see a Cold War confrontation that may continue for several more decades,” says D. Grybauskaitė.
The former president of Lithuania also singled out Hungary, whose Prime Minister Vikor Orban and his government keep postponing decisions on military and economic support to Ukraine. Slovakia, according to D. Grybauskaitė, also poses a threat, because parties that are not favorable towards Ukraine are gaining more and more power there.
