The Telecommunications Company of Cuba, SA (ETECSA) assured that the digital payments application Transfermóvil closed 2023 with a record number of 977 million operations carried out.

This number represents a growth of 25% compared to the figure recorded in the previous year, which indicates the increase in operations that those on the island carry out through said platform.

The information offered by ETECSA directors also highlights that during 2023 Transfermóvil reached 4.8 million users and incorporated new functionalities, which has demonstrated its acceptance in the country.

During the most recent session of the Council of State, the head of the Ministry of Communications, Mayra Arevich Marín, updated some elements related to the policy of digital transformation and electronic commerce in Cuba.

According to the minister, in 2023 the Mi Transfer mobile wallet was enabled in the application developed by ETECSA, which reached 376,000 users and carried out 37.7 million operations.

Regarding electronic commerce, Arevich explained that payment for electricity services in this way also increased last year to 50.38%.

In the case of telephone services, user payments through Transfermóvil increased up to 87%, tax payments reached 57.68%, and gas payments grew to 43.36%.

In recent times, the platform has incorporated other services, such as the expansion of the payment of taxes on public documents, a benefit that addressed the shortage and problems in the production of stamp stamps in Cuba.

Transfermóvil was launched in 2015 by ETECSA, the only telephone company in the country in alliance with the banking system. Initially, the application was focused on carrying out public service payment operations.

Then, in 2018, the Cuban government decided to insert it into the line of development associated with electronic commerce, for which it established a direct collaboration with the CIMEX Business Group.
