Virudhunagar: Inspector Shankar Kannan and SI Chellapandi have been transferred to the armed forces following their alleged lack of response in the recent attack on a farmer during a village council meeting in Gangakulam near Srivilliputhur. Additionally, notices have been sent to VAO Sridevi and Village Assistant Muthulakshmi, demanding an explanation for their failure to inform higher authorities about the incident.

The incident took place during a village council meeting held on October 2 in Gangakulam village under Pilliyarkulam Panchayat of Srivilliputhur Union. Farmer Ammaiyappan had raised questions to MLA Manraj and Panchayat Secretary Thangapandian, who allegedly kicked him in the presence of PTO Meenakshi. Subsequently, Ammaiyappan was attacked by a supporter named Rasu. A case was registered against Thangapandian under three sections, and a special police team was assembled to locate him. Rasu was arrested on the night of the 5th.

The matter has drawn significant public attention, leading to demands for strict action against the officials involved in the attack. Farmer Ammaiyappan was admitted to Virudhunagar Government Medical College Hospital on Friday night.

As a response to the incident, SP Srinivasa Perumal has ordered the transfer of Srivilliputhur Nagar Police Inspector Sankarkannan and Vanniyambatti SI Chellapandi to the armed forces, citing their inadequate performance in handling the matter. Likewise, District Commissioner Senthilkumar has issued notices to Pilliyarkulam VAO Sridevi and Village Assistant Muthulakshmi, asking them to provide an explanation to justify why no disciplinary action should be taken against them for failing to inform higher authorities about the incident.

The public continues to demand justice for the farmer and expects the authorities to take swift and decisive action against those responsible for the attack.
