The rescue of Mirošovice Castle is reminiscent of the legend of David and Goliath. The small village of Hrobčice, which has just over a thousand inhabitants, decided five years ago to reverse the fate of the dilapidated monument and bought it from the Kampanila Malhostice association for a symbolic crown. Although the municipality did not have the money for repairs, the enlightened mayor obtained it from subsidies.

Jana Syslová (Za obec krásnějí) found the money in the program of the Ministry of Industry and Trade for the use of brownfields. It received three-quarters of the amount for repairs in the amount of 64 million crowns. “Subsidy programs can be generous and we managed to get almost 50 million crowns from the brownfield utilization program. We gave 14 million crowns of our own. It’s enough, but we believe that it will pay off very soon,” said the mayor of ČTK.

Nothing has survived from the original equipment of the castle. However, craftsmen discovered the original lining in one part, which is from the 13th century. The sandstone portal around the door and the original Renaissance plaster were also saved. In order to partially recoup the investment in repairs, the village is now offering the castle for rent. The mayor expects that it will serve commercial purposes.

Mirošovice Castle dates from the 17th century, when the Lobkowicz family had it modified from the original fortress into a representative form, and its appearance did not change significantly until the property was expropriated by the state in the second half of the 20th century. At that time, it was acquired by the state estate and it did not invest much in repairs. In the 1990s the property was dilapidated and by 2019 the roof had collapsed.
