Since the beginning of this year, the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine to Slovakia has decreased by three times. This was announced on Tuesday, January 4, by the directorate of the Slovak gas transmission operator – Eustream.

So, on January 1, 49,502,651 cubic meters were pumped. m, January 2 – 35,487,391 cubic meters. m, and on January 3 – 26,078,940 cubic meters. m. At the same time, technical capacity allows pumping daily up to 184 million cubic meters. m of gas.

“The pumping of Russian gas to Slovakia through our gas distribution station in the town of Veki Kapushany on the border with Ukraine has been reduced by about three times since December 31, 2021,” Eustream told TASS.

On January 1, gas pumping through the Velke Kapusany border crossing decreased from 84 million to 49 million cubic meters. m., that is, by 41.7%. This indicator was the lowest since November 2, 2021.

At the same time, this decline is taking place against the backdrop of Gazprom’s refusal to book capacity for the transit of natural gas through Poland via the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline.

The Russian gas holding did not book capacity from 21 to 31 December 2021.

On December 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that Gazprom had not booked this traffic because its counterparties and companies that buy natural gas along this route had not submitted bids for purchase. The Russian leader pointed out the grounds to believe that the gas returned by the reverse gas from the FRG to Poland will later go to Ukraine.
