2023 recorded the best results ever and the largest increase in the last decade. Preliminary data from the National Transplant Center certify this
If the good morning had already been seen in 2022, last year donations and transplants of organi, tissues and hematopoietic stem cells in Italy have set an all-time record. «We can say this with a certain satisfaction and a bit of pride – comments Massimo Cardillo, director of the National Transplant Center -, because they are truly important results: it is the best result ever, but also the greatest increase in recent years». For the first time, organ donations exceeded the two thousand mark, standing at 2,042 (+11.6%), while transplants have largely surpassed the wall, never before crossed, of four thousand operations in a year: in 2023, 4,462 were carried out organ transplants, 586 more than in 2022 (+15.1%). In both cases, these are not only the highest absolute figures ever, but also the highest annual growth percentages ever obtained.
