A strike “handbrake” will be pulled tomorrow, May 1, by the public transport in the capital but also more widely in the country, as federations and unions participate in strikes her Labor Day. THE GSEE, ADEDY, PAME, Labor Centers and federations, as well as many primary unions, have announced a strike tomorrow, not accepting the government’s decision to “move” the May Day holiday to Tuesday, May 7. “Labor Day is a strike and not a holiday”, they emphasize and present various demands of the workers. They will take place in Athens three concentrations on Wednesday morning, at Syntagma at 10.30 am. from PAME, in Klathmonos square at 11 am. by GSEE and ADEDY and in Propylaia by primary unions and collectives. They will not be released on May 1st newspapersdue to the journalists’ participation in the May Day strike.
Regarding the movement of public transport, the Panhellenic Federation of Railways and Fixed Track Vehicles has announced a 24-hour strike for Wednesday, leaving the capital without metro, tram and electric railway. Also, there will be changes in train schedules. The railway workers are demanding immediate hiring of permanent staff, the restoration of free negotiations and collective labor agreements, wage increases, the reopening of the railway network throughout Greece and full clarification and justice for the tragic accident in Tempi. City buses will run work attitudes.
