Following the meeting between the Government and the transport sector, Napoleón Cabrera, president of the National Federation of Light and Mixed Transport of Ecuador, announced that his organization has decided not to participate in the demonstrations scheduled for this Thursday, July 4, in protest against the elimination of fuel subsidies.

Cabrera also assured that “there will be no interruption in the transport service.”

The union leader detailed the agreements reached with the Government, highlighting the creation of a permanent security table that will be established in Guayaquil starting next Tuesday, July 9, with an initial session scheduled for this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Ministry of Government.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Transport and Public Works, Roberto Luque, the Minister of Government, Michele Contugi, and the new executive director of the National Transit Agency (ANT), Alejandro Lascano.

The leader said the following agreements were reached during Wednesday’s meeting:

1. Installation of a permanent transport security table in Guayaquil starting on Tuesday, July 9, with the participation of authorities and senior officers of the National Police and Armed Forces.
2. Establishment of productive credit lines for transporters.
3. Exemption from value added tax (VAT) for the “operating basket of the vehicle fleet”, with a detailed proposal to be presented at upcoming meetings.
4. Return of the draft regulations of the Traffic Law to the Ministry of Transport and Public Works for its dissemination with the unions and the incorporation of contributions, followed by the definition of the final document for its publication.
5. Regular meetings with the National Transit Agency (ANT), the Internal Revenue Service (SRI) and the National Public Procurement Service (Sercop).
