TRANSPORT
The interprovincial and intercantonal transport unions suspended their participation in strikes or protests called for Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 July. As a result, more than 13,000 buses will provide their services normally to citizens, so there is no expectation of service stoppages or road closures.
In a press conference held in Guayaquil on Monday, July 15, 2024, Abel Gómez, manager of the National Federation of Transportation Cooperatives (Fenacotip), assured that the measure was taken after consultation with the bases and the State of Exception that governs in Guayas, Los Ríos, Manabí, Orellana, Santa Elena, El Oro and the Camilo Ponce Enríquez canton in Azuay.
“The measure, due to the state of emergency, is suspended and of course the National Assembly of Transporters will be the one to resolve the issue. The resolution today is to call a national assembly,” said Gómez.
The leader announced that Fenacotip will not continue to hold talks with the National Government and will hold a national assembly to establish the measures to be taken in the future. This despite the fact that last week agreements had already been reached with the Executive such as reinforcing the presence of security forces on three main roads and combating extortion.
Other unions such as the National Federation of Heavy Transport (FENATRAPE) and the National Federation of Light Transport (FENACOTRALI) will continue to hold talks with the National Government to comply with the established agreements.
