Corona in the air
As of Monday lunchtime alone, more than 2100 flights around the world were canceled, as the website Flightaware listed. China, Indonesia and the USA were hardest hit by the flight chaos. 8,000 flights had already been canceled over Christmas. A good 700 flights have already been canceled for Tuesday (December 28th).
The deletions are related, among other things, to an acute loss of staff at many airlines because many pilots and flight attendants are in Corona-Quarantine.

The virus is also the dominant issue on the high seas. US authorities view corona outbreaks on cruise ships with increasing concern. The CDC health authority is currently monitoring more than 60 cruise ships. The reason: the number of infections reported by them had exceeded threshold values

According to the Washington Post, several of the cruise ships affected were refused entry into ports in the Caribbean. “I feel like I’ve spent the past week on a superspreader event,” said a passenger on the 290-meter ocean liner “Carnival Freedom”.

Health authorities in New York sound the alarm. Given the spread of the Omikron variant, there is an increase in hospital admissions of children.
