Pegasus spyware has infiltrated 50,000 handsets worldwide, according to a report by Amnesty International and Barbidness Stories.
The list also includes the mobile numbers of 14 world leaders. The list includes three princes, 10 prime ministers and a king.
The report states that the cell phones of Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, Iraqi President Barham Sally, French President Emmanuel Macron and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa are being spied on by Pegasus spyware.
But none of these leaders have tested their phones and confirmed that Pegasus spyware has infiltrated them. The NSO that developed the Pegasus spyware says that it only sells software to governments around the world and not to individuals or private companies.
The affair is tumultuous in India. The parliamentary monsoon session was completely paralyzed by the Pegasus affair. When the matter became highly controversial last year, the federal government dismissed the allegations as untrue. In October, the Supreme Court set up a three-member panel of inquiry.
In this context, the Pegasus affair has been brought to light again by The New York Times, with the federal budget session set to begin on Monday. The New York Times reports on the war on the world’s most powerful cyber weapon.
