The Generalitat of Catalonia will distribute a total of 120 million euros between training centers to provide courses to 40.000 personasthe vast majority in paro and with the aim of reinserting them into the labor market. Courses to obtain a truck or bus license, a welder’s license, a computer programmer’s license or for socio-health care, among others, are some of the offers contemplated in the program.

Among transporters, for example, a union that has recently lamented the lack of available professionals, Treball estimates that it will offer training for about 240 people. All of them will begin to be published so that those interested can sign up towards the end of the year.

In Catalonia there are currently 338,872 people registered in employment offices as unemployed, which represents a rate of 8.4%. It is the lowest figure in the last 15 years, although by European standards it is still a very high figure. Francefor example, has 7.4%, Denmark a 5.6% o Germany 2.9%. “Our responsibility is to guarantee maximum job placement opportunities. […] We need to make this training effort,” pointed out the Minister of Business and Work, Roger Torrentduring the announcement of the investments.

According to last year’s experience, between 50 y 60% of users who have gone through some of these training find work after six months. And one of the priority groups are the over 45 years, which in last year’s edition represented more than a third of the users. Those under 30 years of age, another group with integration difficulties, are also another group of priority attention, as well as people with some type of disability.

Now the Generalitat activates this lever and the training centers receiving the subsidies must present their offers before September 18. Later from the Employment Service of Catalonia (SOC) will give them the ‘ok’ and the centers will progressively advertise the courses, which the beneficiaries will be able to access for free. On average, each course will last about 400 hours and the vast majority of them are face-to-face.

the ‘president’ Peter Aragonés and the ‘Conseller’ of Business and Work, Roger Torrent, presented this Thursday this program – Occupational Training in Prioritary Areas (FROAP) – in one of the potential receiving centers, Eurecat of Cerdanyola del Vallès. The budget allocation allocated this year is 120 million euros, 41% higher than that allocated last year. “We must gain weight in the global economy through greater productivity and competitiveness” and, in turn, generate “higher quality jobs,” declared the ‘president’.

The Department led by Roger Torrent periodically announces investments linked to training and integration of unemployed people. Specifically, the 120 million announced this Thursday do not come from the Generalitat’s own funds, but from those assigned by the State Government and distributed through the sectoral Education and Labor conferences.
