On Monday afternoon, Louisville suffered a huge loss when freshman G/F Trentyn Flowers announced that he is leaving the program to join the Adelaide 36ers in the NBL.

Flowers, a former member of the class of 2024, reclassified to sign early with Louisville and was instrumental in rebuilding the program.

“In my opinion, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Flowers told 247Sports. “When the opportunity came, there was only a certain window for me to make that decision. For me it was about making sure and being able to fully focus on basketball. Being here for my first two months in Louisville, I saw what a phenomenal place it is and I love everyone here. It’s just that in college, in general, there are a lot of distractions, so it’s really about focusing and honing my craft. I’m also going there to play point full-time, something I couldn’t pass up.”

In making his decision, Adelaide 36ers head coach CJ Burton expressed his confidence in Flowers’ game and laid out his vision for him that he could not turn down.

“For a coach, CJ (Burton) is a great coach,” Flowers said. “I feel like he totally believes in my game and who I am as a person and a player. For them they had Josh Giddey who is my size, we have similar games and Josh played the point for them. The coach said we need a point guard so he can come in and run the point for us. They want me to be a floor general. Obviously, I can also play without the ball, but I will be used a lot with the ball and I will be required to make everyone else better.”

With the primary goal of making it to the NBA, Flowers will use his new opportunity to learn as much as he can from the veterans around him.

“I really want to be around vets who can take me in and teach me the ins and outs of the game,” Flowers said. “There you are playing with grown men who have been in the game and know a lot. There’s a lot I can take from them. The style of play is also different and is more like the NBA than college basketball, so I’m excited. It’s an overall learning experience that excites me.”
