Treva Bergan, Dedicated farmer, Educator, and Community Member, dies at 78
A party of life will be held for Treva Lu Bergan on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the United Congregational Church in Baudette, Minnesota. Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Baudette, Minnesota, with an additional hour of visitation at the church on Friday prior to the service.
Born on April 18, 1947, in Kenmare, North Dakota, to Merl and Margaret (Hazelton) Hain, Treva bergan embodied a life rooted in family, education, and service to her community. She spent her formative years on the family farm near Sherwood, North Dakota, instilling in her a strong work ethic and a deep connection to the land.
Treva’s commitment to learning continued after graduating from Sherwood High School in 1965. She pursued higher education at North Dakota State University-Bottineau Branch, completing her studies in 1967. Following her graduation, she dedicated herself to shaping young minds, working within the Rolla Public Schools and Grand Forks Public School System in North Dakota.
In 1971,Treva married Randall (Randy) Glen Bergan in the Methodist Church in Sherwood,North Dakota,beginning a 54-year partnership built on love and mutual respect.Together,they welcomed twins,Gordon and Kendra,and established a family farm that would be their livelihood for decades.The couple retired from farming in 2001, having celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2021.
Beyond her professional and agricultural pursuits, Treva cultivated a rich personal life. She found joy in reading, gardening, cooking, and baking, often inspired by her favorite shows on the Food Network. Her garden’s bounty was preserved through canning and freezing, a testament to her resourcefulness and dedication to providing for her family.
Treva was deeply involved in the lives of her children, actively participating in their education as a room mother and 4-H leader, and enthusiastically supporting their musical and athletic endeavors. Her commitment extended to her faith community, where she served as a deaconess and clerk at the Pilgrim Congregation Church in Williams, Minnesota. in the early years of her marriage, she also shared her insights and observations through a weekly column for the Northern Light Region.Later in life, she contributed her skills as an office assistant, receptionist, and proofreader to both The Northern Light newspaper in Williams, Minnesota, and The Warroad Pioneer newspaper in Warroad, Minnesota.
Treva Bergan passed away on January 23, 2026, at the Warroad Senior Living Center in Warroad, Minnesota. She is survived by her husband, Randall; son, Gordon Bergan and his wife, Dessa (Brunette) Bergan, of Williams, Minnesota; daughter, Kendra Bergan of Warroad, Minnesota; sister,
