Triathletes Tyler Mislavchuk from Canada and Ekaterina Shabalina, representing Kazakhstan, who competed at the Olympics in Paris, vomited on July 31 after swimming in the Seine, Day.Az reports.
The Daily Mail reported that Mislavchuk finished in ninth place with a time of 1 hour 39 minutes and 41 seconds, vomiting 10 times.
“I didn’t come to the Olympics to just be in the top 10, but I gave it my all. I went for it, I threw up 10 times, but I don’t regret anything,” the Canadian athlete said.
In turn, Shabalina told the Sport24 portal that she dropped out of the race due to a sharp deterioration in her health.
“Triathlon is a contact sport, and it’s quite difficult for the judges to track “fights” during the swimming stage. Even though it’s prohibited. After getting hit in the head several times, I choked on water from the Seine, after which I started to feel sick for the rest of the swim. And I threw up after the first lap of the cycling stage,” she explained.
After dropping out of the race, she contacted doctors who prescribed her medication. Shabalina also revealed that due to logistical problems in the Olympic Village, she missed training in the pool. In addition, there is no hot water in the block where the Kazakh team lives.
