Friday, July 28, a tragedy occurred during the swimming event of the M triathlon, for medium distance, which closed the 17th edition of the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon at Lake Vernay. A 48-year-old Irish woman drowned in the lake, which is located in the town of Allemond (Isère), as reported by the Dauphine Libere.
According to information from the newspaper, the competitor was probably the victim of discomfort during the 1.2 km race. She was quickly taken out of the water and transported in critical condition to Grenoble hospital, after the on-site intervention of rescue teams. But she did not survive.
The malaise thesis is preferred
An autopsy was ordered by the Grenoble prosecutor’s office, and the local gendarmerie began an investigation into the death of the competitor. Authorities will investigate the cause of death. For the moment, according to the Dauphiné Libéré, the thesis of malaise is privileged.
