One more “golden ticket” for the Blues of the triathlon! By finishing third in the “Test Event” organized in Paris this Friday, Dorian Coninx has almost guaranteed his participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. With this podium, the 29-year-old Frenchman achieves a first-class selection criterion. He will have to confirm his state of form in 2024 but his place on the starting pontoon is almost assured like Cassandre Beaugrand for the girls.
“I’m really super happy to make the podium here, appreciated the Grenoblois after the race, preceded by nothing in the sprint by the Portuguese Vasco Vilaca for second place behind the Briton Alex Yee. I had aimed for this race, it’s really great. I tried not to leave too quickly (Editor’s note: on the running part). Once I got back to the front, I said to myself that I had surely saved a small cartridge at the start and I managed to stick to my plan, which was to be in the best possible position at the last corner. It sprinted super fast, I closed my eyes and put in everything I could! “.

Alex Yee big winner of the day
Far ahead, Briton Alex Yee crushed the competition by taking the lead in the second lap of the race, to finally complete his 10 km in 29 minutes. “Nothing to say, he is too strong, recognized the bronze medalist of the day. He did a very good swim, he was direct with us, he was not stingy on the bike and was one of those who rode the most… We will continue to train and try to plug the hole, but he is very very strong “.

The Blues, at the forefront of the swimming/cycling part, did not deserve it and almost scored a double podium. Pierre Le Corre, winner of the last round of the World Cup in Sunderland, took 4th place, when Léo Bergère, world champion in 2022 finished 5th. Both will have the opportunity to try their luck again in Pontevedra (Spain) in September. A place on the podium in the Grand Final of the World Championship would allow them to take a big step towards the Games.
“A year to be better”
“It’s frustrating, admitted Le Corre afterwards. We have criteria that are very hard to meet. To finish in the sprint for second place and to miss this sprint, clearly I have some regrets but at the same time I am very satisfied with my race. I gave it my all, I couldn’t do better”. “There is a little bit of disappointment, acknowledged Bergère in turn. It was very tight and I gave the maximum so I have no regrets on that side. We can draw a very positive balance sheet and we have a year to be better”.
Finally, Vincent Luis, barely recovered from his hip injury, preferred to stop at the start of the run, but he reassured himself on the swimming/cycling part, going out at the head of the Seine and always being well placed on the bike. Note that there will only be three quotas for the French at the Paris Olympics.
