The Olympic road events will require several road closures, especially in Hauts-de-Seine and Yvelines.
Better not to take the road in Paris this weekend of August 3 and 4. New events will take the streets of the capital, promising entertainment for viewers who will be able to go to free… but disruption for riders and drivers, warn the authorities. And this until Yvelines.
On Saturday August 3 in the morning, the roads will be closed to accommodate the athletes along the route of the mixed triathlon event, which will take place on Monday. Running and cycling will take place in a small area around the Alexandre III Bridge, from where the athletes will enter the Seine: on the Quai d’Orsay, from the Invalides Bridge to the National Convention, near the Grand Palais, below. of Champs-Élysées, rue Montaigne and rue François Ier. The road will not be accessed three hours before the first, until 15 minutes after the last, ie between 3 am and 11:45 am.

Cycling Saturday and Sunday
But it is the men’s road race which will cause the most significant disruptions. In Paris, the route will follow the corridors between the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame, and will cross the capital from north to south, with a loop around Montmartre, until the 20th arrondissement. A large 225 km cycle will also cross Yvelines and Hauts-de-Seine, through the valley of Chevreuse, Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Versailles and Saint-Germain-en-Laye. This will be the case again on Sunday for women, with a short circuit outside the capital, passing through Versailles and the Chevreuse valley.

Regarding the traffic arrangements around the two routes, they are very vague, site anticipaterlesjeux.gouv.fr giving contradictory information. Now it shows that the area will be closed three hours before the start of each event (8 am Saturday and 11 am Sunday), then reopen 15 minutes after the record of the last athlete. But on the same page, we also read that “the race route will be closed to motorized vehicles for a period of 5 hours around the route of the athletes».
Crossing points will allow local residents to cross these areas by car up to one hour before the runners return to Paris, and up to 15 minutes before then 15 minutes after for pedestrians. In both cases, the end of the exams is expected between 6:15 pm and 6:45 pm. So it is better to limit your travel, and favor public transport to areas that are closed to traffic.
