Tribal clashes in Sudan: 168 deaths

by time news

SudanAt least 168 people have been killed in clashes in the Sudanese region of West Darfur. 98 people were injured. This is one of the biggest attacks in Sudan in recent memory. Reports suggest the death toll could rise further. The clashes escalated when some people attacked the villages of the non-Arab minority Masalits for allegedly killing two tribesmen in the Krinik. Reports reveal that the Arab Janjaweed was behind the attack.

The United Nations has condemned the attack in Sudan and ordered an investigation. Eight people were killed in another clash on Friday. Former medical director Salah Salih said there had been no intervention on the part of the local government to stop the fighting here.

The Arab Janjaweed Civil Army played a key role in suppressing the minority revolutionary struggles. In the year two thousand and three, after the civil war, there were many conflicts between the tribes in Darfur.
