After studying architecture, Prateek Dhanmer, Shardul Patil and Vineeta Kaur, residents of Maharashtra, decided to do something for the society. Through his work, these young architects wanted to bring a change in the lives of the village people. He started it from the tribal village Murbad in Palghar district of Maharashtra.

Pratik also belongs to this area. Seeing the simple lifestyle here, all three decided to work here through their art and knowledge.

To know closely, he carefully understood the houses and the way of living of the people here.

During this research, Prateek, Shardul and Vineeta closely understood the architecture of tribal houses and observed that these houses are different from ordinary houses in many ways.

Culture and local touch of Maharashtra

Taking this village lifestyle and tradition forward, Prateek, Shardul and Vineeta decided to build a tribal house here at minimal cost and started their traditional and sustainable architecture startup, Design Jantra.

Today, through his architectural firm, he is building natural houses at different places in India and making people aware about the use of natural things and local arts and skills.

His house built in Murbad is definitely different from the common houses in appearance, but in reality it is rather a part of nature. Architect Prateek lives in this house with his family

He started building this house in the year 2016; Where today Prateek lives with his family.

Apart from being made of local materials, the entire house is plastered with mud mixed with jaggery, tree resin, fenugreek, lime and hair to give it strength. This 2300 sq ft tribal house built without cement does not require much maintenance compared to other mud houses.

Combination of sustainability and tradition

Prateek, Shardul and Vineeta entrusted the work of making it to local skilled artisans, which gave the house a traditional look and also a means of employment for the villagers.

To make Prateek’s house surrounded by hundreds of trees and plants as sustainable as possible, water conservation has also been taken care of.

This step of taking forward their tradition and technology through sustainable architecture is really worthy of praise.
