(ANSA) – TRIESTE, 03 SEPTEMBER – The management of peri-procedural anticoagulant therapy in patients undergoing TAVI (a procedure to replace the aortic valve without open-heart surgery, particularly indicated for elderly patients and those at high surgical risk). This is the international study “POPular Pause TAVI” in which the SC Cardiology of the Giuliano-Isonzo University Health Authority directed by Prof. Gianfranco Sinagra participated, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, and whose results were presented at the European Congress of Cardiology in London. The multicenter, randomized study involved 858 patients and provides new evidence to support the peri-procedural interruption of oral anticoagulant therapy in patients undergoing TAVI. The indications for this procedure are the result of sharing in the Heart Team between Cardiac Surgeons, Cardiac Anesthetists and Cardiologists. The study was conducted by the Diagnostic and Interventional Hemodynamics Unit and by Prof. Enrico Fabris.
Research evidence is fundamental for daily clinical practice with a significant impact on the care of cardiac patients. (ANSA).
