Trigo is penetrating the American market with autonomous supermarket technology

The startup company Trigo, which develops technology for autonomous supermarkets, is entering the American market for the first time in collaboration with Wakefern, the largest cooperative supermarket chain in the United States. Trigo’s computer vision technology enables a “pick & go” shopping experience – shoppers pick up the products they are interested in, in the supermarket cart or carry them in their hands and can leave the store without going through the checkout. Trigo’s system detects the products that each customer collects by combining cameras, an artificial intelligence system and a computer vision that analyzes the images, similar to the technology of autonomous vehicles. At the end of the purchase, the customer receives the invoice for the mobile device through the app of the store network.

The Wakefern chain joins the major supermarket chains in Europe that have opened stores with Trigo technology over the past year, including 2 autonomous stores for the Tesco chain in London, the German store chain REWE in Cologne, and the German discount chain Netto recently announced the opening of an autonomous supermarket. Some of the stores are hybrids that allow you to shop at a regular checkout alongside the digital experience, for the benefit of casual shoppers who are not interested in signing up for the app and those who do not have a smartphone. Trigo’s system is designed in accordance with the strict EU and US privacy standards. It does not collect or analyze biometric information and does not use face recognition methods. The system anonymously centralizes information on buyers’ preferences used by the network to streamline its work and consumer service.

Trigo was founded in 2018 by the brothers Michael Gabay, the company’s CEO, and Daniel Gabay, the VP of technology.
