Title: Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra Summoned by Ethics Committee Over Bribery Allegations

Delhi: The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee has summoned Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra to appear before a hearing on November 2 in relation to allegations of receiving money in exchange for asking questions. Moitra, a prominent figure in West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress party, allegedly received gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani as a bribe while questioning businessman Adani in Parliament.

The Parliamentary Ethics Committee, currently investigating the matter, initially ordered Moitra to appear in person on October 31. However, due to the committee’s decision to make the summons public before officially notifying Moitra, he successfully requested a postponement. Moitra has pledged to appear before the committee right after completing his scheduled events in his constituency on November 4. However, the committee has emphasized that no further extensions will be granted.

The controversy surrounding Moitra stems from his representation of the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal as a Trinamool Congress MP. Of the 61 questions raised by him in the Lok Sabha, 50 have been centered around the Adani Group. It is alleged that Moitra received a substantial bribe from real estate tycoon Hiranandani in exchange for raising these questions. The claims were recently brought to light by Moitra’s ex-boyfriend, Jai Anand Dehatrai, who provided evidence to support the allegations. Following Dehatrai’s revelation, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey lodged a formal complaint with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, prompting the ongoing inquiry by the Parliamentary Ethics Committee.

On Thursday morning, both BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and Jai Anand Dehrai appeared before the Parliamentary Ethics Committee where they provided further clarification and substantiated their claims. Committee Chairman Vinod K Sonkar took charge of the interrogation and obtained crucial evidence, adding to the ongoing investigation.

The outcome of the hearing on November 2 will play a significant role in determining the course of action against Mahua Moitra. As the Trinamool Congress MP faces the serious allegations of receiving money for questioning, all eyes will be on the Ethics Committee’s final decision.
