UC San Diego Tennis Falls to San Diego State, Eyes Pomona-Pitzer Match

The UC San Diego women’s tennis team suffered a 4-0 defeat against San Diego State on Saturday, despite strong individual efforts, and now prepares to face Pomona-Pitzer on February 6th.

Match Recap: aztecs Secure Dominating Victory

SAN DIEGO – UC San Diego dropped a road match to San Diego state on Saturday morning, with the Aztecs claiming a decisive 4-0 victory. San Diego State quickly gained momentum by securing the doubles point, and then carried that advantage into singles play, winning the next three matches in straight sets.

How the Match Unfolded

the Aztecs established an early lead by winning the doubles competition. Kamya Nair and Hana Gamracy, paired together for the first time this season, fell at No. 3 doubles with a score of 2-6. Shortly after, Alisa Lansky and Allison Lian also lost their match at No. 2 doubles, 2-6, clinching the doubles point for San Diego State. At the No. 1 doubles position, Olivia Allegre and Julia Visaya were trailing 4-5 when the doubles point was decided.

In singles competition, San Diego State extended their lead. The Aztecs secured their first singles point at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Allegre fought valiantly at No. 1, but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-3, giving San Diego State their third point. The match was clinched at No. 4 with a 6-4,6-1 victory for the Aztecs.

Despite the overall scoreline, several Tritons demonstrated resilience. Gamracy at No. 2 battled back after dropping the first set 0-6, winning the second 6-3, but the match remained unfinished at 1-1 in the third set.Lansky also split sets at No. 2, winning the second 3-6 after losing the first 6-1, and held a 1-0 lead in the unfinished third set. Lian, playing at No. 5,was also ahead in her unfinished match,leading 5-3 in the second set after losing the first 2-6.

Did you know? – UC San diego is in it’s second year of a four-year transition period to NCAA Division I, competing in The Big West Conference. The transition began in the 2020-21 academic year.

Triton Tidbits & Upcoming Schedule

This match marked the first time this season that Kamya Nair and hana Gamracy were paired together in doubles competition. Additionally,Nair has now played singles in two consecutive matches this season.

UC San Diego will continue their road trip, facing Pomona-Pitzer on Friday, February 6th, in Claremont, California, with the match scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
