No taboo between young mothers or those about to become one. This Friday, October 20, in the “Woman, mother and child” building of the Troyes hospital, we are discussing the topic of breastfeeding once we have returned to work. Your choice: coffee or breastfeeding herbal tea. Lactation advisor and childcare assistant, Doriane Grenier, one of the speakers, walks the talk by handling the breast pump. To his right, a young woman with a well-rounded belly. “I prefer to anticipate so as not to run everywhere after the birth. I am self-employed and I cannot afford to neglect my clients,” she explains.

“Have you started stocking up?” », asks Doriane Grenier. Breast milk will keep for 4 hours at room temperature and up to 48 hours in a refrigerator set at 4°C or lower. The times are much longer for freezing: up to 4 months if the appliance is set to -18°C or less. “It’s important to anticipate the recovery and start storing your milk. The ideal is to do it one month before returning to work,” recommends the health professional. On the chair opposite, we wonder about the baby’s lack of appetite at certain times of the day. Doriane Grenier reassures: “Baby is the conductor. Trust his hunger instinct. »

The law requires premises in companies with more than 100 employees

One of the biggest worries moms have when it comes to returning to work is how much time they will be able to devote to breastfeeding during the day. “The first year, you are entitled to one hour per day,” says Doriane Grenier. It can be divided into several installments but does not give rise to remuneration, except under conventional arrangements. The law requires companies with at least 100 employees to provide a room dedicated to breastfeeding, to breastfeed babies directly or express milk. “In this case, I advise you to put a small sign in front of the door if you do not want to be disturbed. »

The transition is not always simple between the first weeks when the child and his mother remained closely linked and the return to active life. “Don’t worry, babies know the difference between being looked after by their nanny and by their mother,” explains Doriane Grenier. Sometimes it is possible that the child refuses to drink at the nanny’s house. »

“That’s exactly what’s happening to us!” », agrees one of the young mothers. “It’s not a disaster. It happens that babies don’t eat all day, says the lactation specialist. In this case at reunion time, babies are good at wiping the windshield! » End of the workshop. Everyone is reassured. A little herbal tea for the road?
