True to the original and yet new

It looks pretty retro, doesn’t it?

Yes! The iconic Adidas Centennial made its debut on the basketball court decades ago and was already standing out from the crowd back then. Originally made in France, it was available in suede and leather from 1985. The suede models came in color variants such as grey, brown, navy, burgundy and black, while the leather models came in white/red, white/green, white/burgundy and white/natural. Now the shoe legend appears in a new edition that has remained true to the original and only upgrades a few elements.

What can the new edition do?

It stays true to the original with a suede upper. Perforated details in the toe area and a flexible heel counter create a retro flair, as do the grooves in the profile. Of course, the three stripes on the sides should not be missing. A large part of the sneaker is natural white, the midsoles and parts of the outsoles are also kept in a light tone. The three stripes as well as the other details come in dark green, whereby the inner lining, tongue and the flexible collar also serve as color support.

And what about sustainability?

The Centennial is made in part from recycled materials derived from textile scraps, remnants and household waste. As a result, the eco-balance is better than with newly produced materials. When Adidas presented the x Parley running shoe made from recycled plastic waste from beaches and coastal regions in New York in 2015, it was still primarily seen as an image campaign. But in 2021 alone, Adidas claims to have produced 17 million pairs of shoes with recycled plastic waste from beaches and coasts, since 2015 it has been 30 million pairs of shoes. But: Adidas is also one of the largest manufacturers of sportswear. The associated impact on the environment is immense. In 2021 alone, Adidas produced 340 million pairs of shoes and 482 million pieces of clothing – with most materials including polyester. Therefore, the company wants to use only recycled polyester from 2024 onwards.

trend color green?

A year ago, all the fashion magazines agreed: Green will be the trend color in 2022. And yes, last year shades of green not only dominated the catwalks, but also the streets. In the summer, the bright Kelly Green was celebrated, in autumn and winter people liked to wear a rich fir green, combined with beige and white. This is rubbing off on sneaker fashion: Many 2022 models came out in shades of green. One of my favorites is the Centennial. And what will be the trend color for 2023?
