The Swedish rising star in table tennis, Truls Möregårdh (22), has performed incredibly well so far in the Olympics. On Friday afternoon, the Swede, who is ranked 26th in the world, advanced to the men’s singles final.

In the semifinals, he defeated the Brazilian world number six, Hugo Calderano, with a score of 4-2 in sets in Paris. In the final, he will face Chinese player Zhendong Fan – who is ranked as the fourth in the world.

– This is absolutely insane, exclaimed Discovery’s commentator when the advancement was secured.

During Friday’s semifinal, however, the commentators reacted to one thing. In the second set, with the score tied at 4-4, the referee awarded Calderano a point for a service fault from the Swede.

– That is a strange decision from the referee, exclaimed Discovery commentator Björn Geijer, before his colleague followed up:

– There is not much wrong with that serve. It’s annoying when the referee has to get involved like that, Pär Gerell added.

Möregårdh has previously played for Stord Table Tennis Club in Norway.
