“I have agreed with Fox News to debate Kamala Harris on Wednesday, September 4th,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, but it was not immediately clear if Harris agreed to participate in the debate.

Trump’s post came hours after it was announced that Vice President Harris had secured enough votes to be named the official Democratic presidential nominee in November.

Trump’s campaign was turned upside down on July 21 when 81-year-old President Joe Biden decided not to run for re-election in favor of Harris. Mr. Biden withdrew from the race amid growing concerns about his health and after a disastrous June debate with Mr. Trump on CNN.

The second debate between Mr. Trump and Mr. Biden was scheduled for September 10. on ABC television. The same date for the debate had been expected to hold for Harris to replace Biden, but Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said last week that it was “inappropriate” to schedule a debate before Harris became the official Democratic nominee.

In his post, Trump announced the debate’s location and moderators and said it would be held in front of a full audience.
