Donald Trump is charged with four federal crimes which according to the prosecution he would have committed to remain in power after losing the 2020 elections. The accusation, presented by the special prosecutor for the case Jack Smithhas been approved by a grand jury, a judicial body made up of people who are asked to have information about the case and who only decide if there is sufficient evidence to believe that crimes have been committed.

According to a statement from the prosecution, the former president “was determined to remain in power” after losing the 2020 elections and spending two months “spreading lies about voter fraud” knowing that said statements “were false”.

Trump’s response has come through a message from his campaign team on the Truth Social social network, founded by Trump himself: “This is nothing but another corrupt chapter in the pathetic attempt by the Biden crime family and his puppet Department of Justice to interfere in the 2024 presidential election.”

From this moment on, the prosecution wants a speedy trial to be held so that “the evidence can be proven in court and judged by a jury of citizens.”

Prosecutor Jack Smith, who described the assault on the Capitol as “an unprecedented attack on American democracy”, assured that it “was fueled” by Trump’s lies “aimed at obstructing a critical function of the United States government: the process of collecting, counting and certifying election results”.

The prosecutor expects a speedy trial so that “the evidence” accumulated “can be tested in court and judged by a jury of citizens.”
